Its now time to to start checking all your equipment is clean and batteries are up to scratch.Always remember that the temperature can fluctuate in any direction. So its time to ensure your clothing is adequate for any situation. It is better to wear numerous layers ensuring one is waterproof. The best species to start the season off is always wildfowl. One of my favourites is Grebes as they do some wonderful displays .And when they do have young they become tolerant of a photographer and good images are easy to come by.

As the days are starting to lengthen and we have some sunshine. We can hear the song of love is in the air, many of our resident species are starting to defend feeding rights. Then the opportunity arises to capture some very interesting images as nature evolves on our doorsteps or further a field.I will be setting up my hide hopefully next to the sound of a babbling stream as it makes its way out to sea.
My target species will be the Common Kingfisher, here in the UK this species s protected and it is a criminal offence to be within 300 metres of a nest site.It is un-neccessary disturbance to the birds.I was lucky to obtain a Schedule one licence last year in order to have the opportunity to observe these fine birds.I was spending upto eight hours a day in a five foot tent .
