Artist's Description
Bohemian Waxwing Bombycilla garrulus Lenghth 18cm
The Waxwing is a very distinctive bird .It is often admired low down in large flocks as it devours stocks of Red Berries. When in flight often mistaken for Starlings. Both sexes are very similar in colour. They are a pinkish Buff, with Black throat and a Chestnut crest. They also have White and Red wax like tips on wings.with Yellow flight feathers and on tip of tail.
The Waxwing is a winter visitor from Northern Europe. They are forced to move around when all trees are depleted of fruit. They normally will travel in flocks of upto a thousand and then disperse into smaller groups.
Good views can normally be seen on Rowan and Pyracanthus bushes.
All prints purchased will not contain watermark.
