Description
A trip to a local Red Squirrel reserve at the National Trust Formby point on the Sefton coastline Merseyside. The Red Squirrel population was virtually decimated by a pox carried by its larger Grey Squirrel cousin.Due to the work carried out by the Trust and Liverpool University. The population as been restored to just over 300.
We managed to get this one to come looking for acorns and shelled peanuts.A lot of the population are quite timid at this time of year. When the weather is more harsh the Squirrels forage for the stored nuts that they have hidden and become more approachable.
Other opportunities arise as the resident Jays steal the hidden foodstores and they bury them further a field. Then the Reds collect the nuts and bury them elsewhere.
